Reading is an essential part of the student experience at Maranatha Christian Academy, and our Lower School Learning Commons is designed to foster a strong foundation in literacy from an early age. Through intentional programming and engaging experiences, students are introduced to a wide variety of literature that encourages curiosity, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.

One popular initiative is "book tasting," where students are invited to sample a selection of books in a café-style setting. Each student receives a "menu" where they record titles, notes, and impressions—giving them a chance to explore genres and authors they may not have discovered on their own. These experiences allow students to become confident readers while discovering their personal reading preferences.

But our commitment to reading goes even further. Beyond the classroom walls, we recognize that strong reading foundations require consistency and support at home. Students participate in guided reading groups based on their individual levels, ensuring that each child receives the right level of challenge and support to grow at their own pace.

Through these collaborative efforts between home and school, our Lower School students are building strong reading foundations that will serve them well throughout their academic journey and beyond.
